Papeterie ZOUBRIS

Office Supplies, Photocopies, T-Shirts printing

What's the difference between a large-scale store and Papeterie Zoubris?

Unlike large-scale stores, Papeterie Zoubris gave us a genuine personalized service, showed us that they know their products, they didn't look bored out of their head on the job and of all odds, they had in stock a product that we spent the whole morning searching for in football field size stores.

Papeterie Zoubris means we do give a damn!

We can't show you all their products but the video will give you a good idea.

PROVISIONS

Sandwiches on homemade bread baked on premises, Salads, Catering

When was the first sandwich invented? We can suppose that putting food in bread probably came not to long after the invention of crushing grains between 2 stones, mixing it with water and then cook it on fire.

History and legends tell us that aristocracy is the source behind the word sandwich. In the 18th century an infamous Lord was known as a card player and for his decadent ways. One day, to prevent interrupting a game of card, he asked for a piece of meat to be put between two pieces of bread. The purpose would have been to prevent staining his cards.

In the 21st century, around September 2008, two Chefs who worked for many years in haute-cuisine restaurants decided to open their own place. Their experience and knowledge metamorphosed sandwiches to a rank rarely found elsewhere.

We almost forget to mention that nostalgia is behind the name and the location of Provisions. One of the owner’s parents had a convenience store, at the same premises, in the early 80's.

For the moment Provisions is open weekdays from 11am - 4pm. If you work in or pass by the downtown area, this place is a must. Thanks to our members for letting us know about this great place.

The video will show you what we experienced.

TOYO Restaurant

Japanese Grill, sushi

We weren't really attracted to go see a Japanese Grilling show. When you lived it once in your life, the enthusiasm isn’t the same.

This outing was the kids’ choice so we went with the outlook that they would have a blast watching the chef make all his juggling with his spatula and knife.

The kids were possessed as we arrived at the restaurant. Japanese 101 was on the menu and they bombarded the hostess with questions. How do you translate Hello, I'm hungry, thank you, goodbye, etc. We were greeted with lots of kindness and politeness from the staff. The chef did a very good show with the fire and the juggling. The kids had a great time and we did also as we watched their reactions to the show.

How about the food? Our chef did a great job sautéing the shrimps, meat and chicken and mixing them with the sauces and spices. Our meal was very good even if we feel that the recipes and concept should be reinvented. It's better to go in groups you'll have more fun. Off course the chef's skills and humor will be the factor for a great time. Each table can seat a maximum of 7 people. So if you're a kid or a kid at heart, you'll enjoy the experience.

bánh mì CAO THANG

Bánh mì, Vietnamese Sandwiches

No time to sit down and enjoy a meal? Isn't it fortunate that there's a quick and tasty solution. Bánh mì is known as a "Vietnamese sandwich" but the word also means bread. It might look like a "sub bread" but it stops there.

French colonialism introduced the baguette in Vietnam but Bánh mì (bread) looks nothing like French "baguette" in girth or in length. Authentic Bánh mì is made from rice flour and wheat. The version of bread offered by Cao Thang is a bread called "demi-ficelle" baked daily. You can find it in French bakeries around Montréal.

Mr. Maurice, the "Bánh mì maker", recommended that we try the "Cao Thang Sandwich". It's as close as it gets to an authentic sandwich in Vietnam. It's filled with steamed pork slices, Vietnamese lean pork paste, carrots and coriander. The quality of the bread and ingredients made for a delicious meal.

The other nice surprise we had was the exotic fruits drinks that they carry. You don't find these at your local supermarket.

The video is waiting for you
